# Chat and Communication Rules for Love Story Roleplay

> Learn the in-game and out-of-character chat rules for Love Story Roleplay, covering /ooc usage, voice chat, spam, and streamer etiquette guidelines.

Clear, immersive communication is at the heart of great roleplay. Love Story Roleplay uses several chat channels and voice systems to keep in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC) conversations separate and organised. Understanding the difference — and using each channel correctly — protects the immersion of every player around you.

## IC vs. OOC Communication

**In-character (IC)** communication is anything your character says, does, or perceives within the fiction of the world. This includes local voice chat, radio, phone calls, and in-world text messages.

**Out-of-character (OOC)** communication is anything spoken or typed as yourself — the player — rather than your character. OOC channels exist for genuine logistical needs, not as a way to sidestep roleplay or influence IC events from outside the fiction.

  Use **/me** to describe what your character is physically doing (e.g., `/me reaches into their jacket pocket`) and **/do** to describe the environment or objects around your character (e.g., `/do The door is slightly ajar and unlocked`). Using these commands correctly adds depth to scenes and helps other players react naturally without breaking immersion.

## Chat Rules

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Use /ooc only for genuine out-of-character needs">
    The `/ooc` command is a tool for real player-to-player communication when it is truly necessary — for example, to check if another player is comfortable continuing a scene, or to flag a technical issue. It must **never** be used to influence, comment on, or escape an active roleplay situation. If your character is cornered, your player cannot use OOC chat to negotiate a different outcome.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="No spamming any chat channel">
    Sending the same message repeatedly, flooding a channel with rapid-fire messages, or using scripts or macros to automate chat output is considered spam. This applies to every channel: local, OOC, radio, Discord text channels, and any other communication system on the server. Spamming disrupts the experience for everyone nearby.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Voice chat must match your character's situation">
    Your microphone and voice chat represent your character's voice in the world. Speak at a volume and range that makes sense for the scene. You should not be heard across long distances unless your character is using a **radio** or another in-world device that justifies the range. Shouting across the map or talking to players who are not physically nearby breaks immersion for everyone in earshot.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="No excessive caps lock or special characters">
    Writing in ALL CAPS or overloading messages with special characters (e.g., `!!!???###`) is disruptive and difficult to read. Use normal capitalisation and punctuation. Occasional emphasis is fine, but sustained caps-lock use in any channel is treated as aggressive or spammy behaviour.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Never share personal information in public chats">
    Do not share your own — or anyone else's — personal information in any public channel. This includes full names, addresses, phone numbers, social media profiles, or any other identifying details. If someone is sharing your personal information without consent, report it to staff immediately.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Streamer mode etiquette">
    If you know or suspect that another player is streaming or recording content, you must not use that knowledge to gain any in-game advantage. This means no stream sniping, no posting a streamer's in-game location in chat, and no disrupting their session because you recognise them from their stream. Treat streamers exactly as you would any other player.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Discord voice channels follow in-game rules">
    All Love Story Roleplay Discord voice channels are considered an extension of the server's communication environment. The same rules that apply to in-game voice chat — no harassment, no spamming, no sharing personal information, appropriate use of OOC vs. IC context — apply equally in Discord. Staff moderate Discord voice activity and violations there carry the same weight as in-game infractions.

## A Note on Tone

Even in heated or dramatic roleplay scenarios, the player behind the character is still expected to communicate respectfully when using OOC channels. IC conflict is encouraged — OOC hostility is not. If a scene becomes uncomfortable for you or another player, step away from the IC situation and use `/ooc` or a private staff ticket to address the concern calmly.

  These chat conduct rules apply at all times, including during server downtime or events held in Discord. Being in a non-peak period does not suspend any of these expectations.
